Congratulations to all the Wahoos who participated in the 2008 JRAC Swim Championships. It was an exciting two days. Woodmont was a Red Division Sportsmanship Award Winner and placed, overall, 13th in the Championship meet. This is amazing given the number of children from our team competing, once again proving we are one small, but fierce team. Thank you Coaches Mike and Meg and to all of our parents and swimmers for another great season.

There will be FUN PRACTICE fon Monday morning at 11am. All swimmers and divers are invited!

The following swimmers earned points for the team. Places 1st--3rd earned medals, 4th-8th earned ribbons. There were numerous highlights, including many swimmers who went Regular, X or XX. A new Woodmont Pool record was set by Danny Welborn in the Junior Boys 50m Butterfly.

Hi Wahoos!

Thank you so much for coming last night to support and celebrate our kids and coaches. Mike McKee really made my night with that heartfelt speech. I am still thinking about the achievements of our seniors--they are so amazing and really set such a great example for our entire team.

Attached you will find the CiCi's Pizza flyer that I mentioned last night. Thanks again to Barbara Corwin who arranged this fundraiser for our team. We hope you and all of your friends can come. Just download this flyer and bring it with you. Half of the proceeds of all sales made with these flyers will go back to our team

Of course no big event goes without a hitch--here are just a few things we missed last night:

**Brady Curtis Noviced Out in Backstroke. Congrats Brady--that is a major achievement and we will get you a medal early next week.

**There was another Wahoo Award winner in our audience last night. Katie "O'Brien" Pinney! Please forgive the oversight Katie.

**We caught two typos on our trophies last night. Please let me know if your child had his/her name misspelled and we will it corrected early next week.

**Babs Phillips--you have been one of our team's biggest supporters--I cannot believe I forgot to mention your name. And Jamie too, for all the work he does around the pool--what an oversight. Please forgive me. You both are the absolute best and are so appreciated.

**The winners of the coveted parking spots at NOVA were Flo Dooley and Ann Kasemersky. Congrats ladies--you deserve this perk for all you do for our team.

CONGRATS to our Championship Divers and Coaches. You all had a wonderful year and we hope you will join us again next May. Here are the Champs updates:

2008 JRAC DIVE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Lara Park--Mite (Novice), 3rd Place Bronze Medal
Abbey Simonpietri--Midget (Regular), 4th Place Ribbon
Ruthie Grimsdale--Senior, (Regular) 5th Place Ribbon
Danny Welborn--Midget (Regular), 5th Place Ribbon
Sam Welborn--Junior (Regular), 2nd Place Silver Medal

Sam Welborn's 2nd place win qualified him for the All Stars Championship Meet today where he took the Third Place trophy. WOW! Way to go Sammy!

Many thanks again to our coaches Sarah and Ruthie and to our Dive Coordinator, Kathleen Dunn for all that they did for for our divers this year!

Please join me in wishing our swimmers all the best of luck in the JRAC Championships tomorrow and Friday at NOVA. We will post the results as they come in.

July 3rd message

Happy 4th of July Wahoos!

It is hard to believe that we are coming up on the 5th swim meet of the season! This will be a big one as we host one of the largest teams in the league, the Kanawha Firefish. We are expecting between 170-200 swimmers and their families...that means we will need everyone's help to run it as smoothly as the we did at the first home meet. If for any reason you or your swimmer will not be able to be at this meet, please send me a note ASAP.

REMINDERS
* Photographer and Wahoo Dad, Robert Smith, has graciously agreed to take the Wahoo team photo prior to the meet on Monday, July 7th at 5:00pm SHARP. Please have your swimmers and divers (AND COACHES) in their suits and plan to arrive a few minutes early to get in place. If you would like to have individual photos taken of your children, please make arrangements with Mr. Smith by emailing him at rsmithphoto@verizon.net.

* The Woodmont Swim and Dive Team Banquet, sponsored by Outback Steakhouse, will be held at St. Edward's Church on the evening of July 22nd. Visit our website for more information www.woodmont4fun.com

* Information regarding the final swim and dive meets of the season, as well as Championship info will be forwarded as soon as it is received. Stay tuned.

* Congratulations to Meg Anderson and Danny Welborn who were Triple Place Winners in last Monday's meet against Ridgetop.

Good Luck to our Dive Team and Coaches as they face the Midlothian YMCA dive team this afternoon. Go Wahoos!

Have a wonderful, fun-filled and safe 4th of July! Don't forget to rest up on Sunday for Monday's big home meet!

Hello Woodmont!

--We all look forward to your visit this Monday, June 30th.
--Our address is 901 Ridgetop Rd. directly behind the Village shopping center which is at the intersection of Three Chopt Rd. and Patterson Ave... The phone number is 285-3513.
--Your warm- up is from 6:00-6:15 in our 6 lane 25 meter pool.
--We will dive from the shallow end (4 ft. 6) which exceeds the minimum depth requirement, so the mites in relays may dive as well. The mite events will begin in the deep end.
--We will have 2 coaches and swim reps. parking spots reserved for you.
--Our parking area is somewhat small, so you may be forced to park on Ridgetop Rd. which is adjacent to the pool.
--It is probably a good idea to bring your own chairs as we are limited to the amount that we have. Generally, seating is first come, first served, but usually, visiting teams take the lawn in front of the pavilion to the left.
--Our restrooms are located beside the snack bar and our Clerk of the Course will be in the baby pool area.

--We are lucky to have Quizno’s serving up some yummy sandwiches in the pavilion which are $4.50 not including chips and drinks. We will also have our snack bar open which offers many treats to energize the swimmers.
--You are welcome to join in on our “bring a canned good” theme which will be donated to the food bank.

--Also, if willing, we are always game for a parent’s relay. Let us know your thoughts.

I think that sums it up. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns!

Thank you swimmers, coaches and parents for making our first home swim meet a huge success. We haven't hosted a team that large in years, but it went as smoothly as if we had been doing it all along. Everything seemed to be on our side, including the weather!

Special thanks to Tom Kruse who graciously took a training course to be re-certified as our Starter. Tom, just like always, you kept that meet running like a clock. We were out of there in record time for a meet that large. Thank you!

And to Melissa Kerby, who came back to help out at the head table---thank you! It is always a huge comfort to have an old pro sitting right beside you during the first home meet of a season.

Jim & Lisa (and the hospitality team)--the food and service was amazing! Many thanks to Jo McCurry who has come back twice this year to help us handle the money at both the rummage sale and at our first home meet.

Most importantly...Way to Go Wahoo Swimmers! You looked so good in the water. Everyone is improving. The official results of Monday's meet have not yet been posted to the JRAC site, www.jracsummerswim.org. It should be up by tomorrow.

Stay tuned for more info regarding next Monday's away meet at Ridgetop.

Thanks again,

Dive Meet News

Hello Wahoo Dive Parents,

As a reminder, the second dive meet ( away) will be held at Ridgetop this Thursday. PLEASE NOTE: This is different than what was printed in the swim/dive book. Please check the website
www.woodmont4fun.com for warm-up and times and directions.

The following message was sent from the Ridgetop Dive Team Rep:

"We are looking forward to having Woodmont at our pool this Thursday.
Ridgetop is having a food drive for the Central Virginia Foodbank. If any of
your divers and their parents would like to donate canned goods, it would be
greatly appreciated. We will have a collection box at the gatehouse.
Thanks and see you Thursday."
Donna Ellis, Ridgetop Dive Rep.

email June 22nd

Hello Everyone,

Well, it's looking like Mother Nature is going to try and make our meet eventful (again) tomorrow night.

If a meet is delayed due to the weather, the minimum delay for determining whether a meet shall be conducted is one hour from the scheduled start of the meet (no meet cancellations prior to 7:30 with a 6:30 start time). When a meet has already started, the minimum delay in determining whether a meet shall continue is one hour from the stoppage of competition. It is perfectly acceptable to wait longer than one hour. If it is at all possible, we will try to get the meet finished on that night.

If there is thunder or lightning, everyone must clear the pool deck and take cover either in the upstairs recreation hall or in cars. Our pool policy is to wait 20 minutes from the last sound of thunder. Please do not leave the meet until an official call has been made.

And now... cross your fingers for good weather!
See you tomorrow,
Cathy Welborn

HELLO WAHOOS!

SECOND MEET RESULTS :
As many of you may know by now, there was a mistake made at the second meet with Lakeside. When reading the final score, the Lakeside official accidentally transposed the final score numbers. I had already sent out the email to you before they opposing team even caught their own mistake. This was disappointing, but we still had some terrific wins and will, as you know, meet them again for our very last meet!

Quadruple Event Winners were:
Evan Michael Fisk, Sam Welborn, Danny Welborn

Triple Event Winners were:
Andrew Garofolo, Meg Anderson, Shauna Dunn, Angela Stevens and Mac Dooley.

DIVE RESULTS :
Our Dive Team had a great first meet last Thursday. Congrats to Coaches Sarah and Ruthie and to all of our divers.
The final Meet score was Woodmont 90, Three Chopt 95.

Mite Girl Regular: First Place- Meagan Jones
Midget Girl Novice: First Place- Natalie Huesman
Midget Boy Novice: First Place- Ben Ertel
Midget Boy Novice: Second Place- Chris Alley
Junior Girl Novice : First Place- Bridget Dunn
Junior Boy Novice: Third Place-Caston Swedenborg
Junior Boy Regular: Second Place-Michael Dunn
Junior Boy X: First Place- Sam Welborn
Senior Girl Regular: Second Place- Ruthie Grimsdale

FIRST HOME MEET AGAINST WALTON PARK
As you all know, the first home meet will take place this Monday, June 23rd. This is going to be a big one! The opposing team has approximately 200 swimmers, so we will need everyone's help to run an efficient meet. Please let us know, if you haven't already, if you or your swimmer will not be in attendance, especially if you see your name on the below worker schedule. Kelly Fisk posted the event sheets at the pool today.

Again, we are asking all Woodmont parents to park in the lower lot near the basketball courts as a courtesy to our guests. If you can, carpool.

The Ertels are heading up hospitality. If you are not scheduled for a spot and can help out in this area, we would greatly appreciate it. Baked goods are a great way to earn a bit more money for our team. If you have the time and can whip up some cookies or trail mix, we know it will go.

Thank you for all that you do -- we may be the smallest team in this division, but we can definitely stand proud when it comes to being great hosts and sportsmen and women.
See you Monday evening!

Fundraising is key to maintaining our wonderful teams. This year we are trying something new and need your help and your treasures! On Saturday, May 17 th (8am-1pm), the Wahoos will host a Rummage & Bake Sale at the pool.

We are asking everyone (and their neighbors/parents/friends) to donate those items that are no longer of use and that are taking up prime real estate space in closets, attics and garages. We are considerately asking for items that are in good condition and that have real potential to sell. Please, no clothes except quality children’s clothing. If you have any large items, such as furniture or sporting equipment, please deliver these items on the morning of the sale (we will be there at 6am). If this cannot be arranged, send us a note and we will try to find a way to get it there. All other items can be dropped off at the pool beginning the day of swim/dive team registration (April 26th). Additional May drop-off dates/times will be sent in follow-up emails coming soon.

Right now, we ask that you begin gathering items and pricing them in advance (stick-on dots are fine). Many volunteers will be needed to make this event a success. Let us know if you can help on this day by offering to set up or break down, providing sales assistance and/or by making baked goods. We will continue to send updates regarding this big event. Thank you for marking your calendars and getting those items ready!
