Morning Wahoos - Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend and enjoyed your time at the pool, beach, river, or where ever you were!

Congrats to Megan on her wedding this weekend. She and her husband Bo will be honeymooning in August once Bo is done sitting for the bar and we are done swimming.

Just a few friendly reminders for this week:

1) We are still accepting registrations for swim and dive - if you have registered for swim and want to dive or registered to dive and want to swim, its just $25 more. Simply notify me and pass a check made payable to WRA onto Flo Dooley either directly or through the Woodmont Post Office box address found on the membership page. If you haven't gotten your registration form in yet, please contact me ASAP, we'd actually like to resolve all of that today if we can. It will make for a much smoother registration process with JRAC.

2) With the pool now open our 5:30 midget/junior practice will be a little tighter as we will not have as many lanes available for us. Please work with Megan and Katie to see if it it might be appropriate for your 11-12 year old swimmer to practice from 4:00-5:00 with our oldest swimmers. This will not be the right solution for all, but may work for some of the more experienced juniors and allow everyone to get a little more space in the lanes.

3) The Ice Cream/Tie Die Swim & Dive Social is coming up this Sunday from 2:30 to 4:30 - please remember to RSVP to the evite so that our ice cream/tie die coordinators can ensure we have enough supplies to tie die and enough Ice Cream to share. The ice cream will be provided by the team, but we are asking for donations of topings, take a look at the evite and let us know what you can do. Also there will be a partent meeting for the swim team from 4:00-4:30 to fill you in on some of the details of our upcoming meets.

4) The Final training clinic opportuntity is this Wednesday beginning at 6 at Avalon - please consider attending if you haven't already. Clerk of Course and Strokes&Turns represent our biggest need. And for those of you who'd like to rehear what you heard for the first time going one more time is always an option. Here is the official schedule for the classes - it has changed slightly from the other training clinics:
STARTER HEAD TABLE REFEREE S&T HEAD TIMER
6:00 – 7:00 6:00 – 7:00 6:00 – 6:45 6:50 – 8:15 7:00 – 7:30

Clerk of Course
6:00 – 7:00

Thanks for all you do parents to make this a wonderful experience for your kids - we are working through the sign-up genius over the next few days and hope to have that finalized and reposted by the end of this week so you will know for certain what your swim meet commitments are. Where you are new to a trained position, we are working to have an individual experienced in that role for you to shadow the first time you work that role. Thanks for your patience as we ensure that everyone is doing their part!

See you at the pool ~

Practice 2011

Hello Wahoos and Welcome new Wahoos!!! We are so glad to have you joining us!

Practices start on Monday - can you believe it! We look forward to seeing you there - as a reminder before school gets out practices are as follows:

4:00-5:00 Intermediates/Seniors
5:00-5:30 Mites
5:30-6:30 Midgets/Juniors

Its also training clinic time for the upcoming summer season. Attendance of training (or USS Certification) is required to fill the certain positions during the swim meet. For most positions this training must be taken annually, the only exceptions are announcer and starter.
If you are USS Certified for any of these positions please let me know so that I can record it in my records. If you aren't please mark your calendars and be sure you attend one of the following sessions and let me know you are attending.

All of the classes are 1 hour or less - so it is not a major commitment, but your attendance is absolutely necessary to ensure the success of the season. Here's the schedule:

For those of you who have been with the program or involved with summer swimming for more than one season, I highly encourage you to select one of the positions above and get trained. The more folks we get trained to perform these roles the fewer times any one person has to fulfill the role during the summer. So get trained and help spread the wealth!

To help you decide where you would like to focus your training time, here are descriptions of each of the positions as well as the number of individuals we need to fill that position for each away meet and each home meet.

Position Description # at Away Meet # at Home Meet Notes

Training required annually or USS certified. - 1
Strokes & Turns Two turns judges and two strokes judges are required for each meet. They ensure the swimmers are completing the strokes and turns legally. They are responsible for disqualifying swimmers when they complete a stroke or turn illegally. Training required annually or USS certified.

Aug 3rd message

Dear Wahoos,
Congratulations to all of our coaches, swimmers and divers for another great summer season. At last week's JRAC Swim Championships, the Wahoos placed 12th among 19 teams and took home the 2010 Red Division Sportsmanship Award! Our Champs represented our team well, swimming their best and showing great sportsmanship as usual. Many gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as ribbons for places 4-8, were won in fierce competitions. Danny Welborn broke his own WRA records setting new times in the 100 IM (1:06.62), 100 Free (59.32) and 50 Back (30.98). I have attached all Champs Swim and Dive Winners Places 1-8. For complete individual and team results go to www.jracsummerswim.org. Trophies and medals that were not picked up at the banquet or champs are at the snack bar.

Good luck to our seniors as they head off to college this August:
Aaron Fisk to University of Miami
Eliza Ertel to George Mason University
Katie Hood to Old Dominion University
Emily Walter to Virginia Tech

Best wishes to you and your family for a fun-filled (or maybe just lazy!) August.

Sincerely,
Cathy Welborn

Good Morning Wahoo Champs,
We've got two big, exciting days ahead of us. Get lots of rest today, drink plenty of water and try to stay out of the sun. Tomorrow, make sure you allow plenty of time to get to Godwin High School, park, load your gear onto the busses and travel to NOVA. Bring snacks, drinks, some games, cards, crayons or markers, stickers, etc -- we can decorated the big poster that was at the Banquet last night. Don't forget to bring chairs and towels. The Worker schedule is attached as a reminder. Heat Sheets are $7 this year. Champs T-Shirts are (I think) $10.

Try to be at our tent by at least 7:45am for the 8am warm-ups in Lane 2 . Good Luck Wahoos!

Cathy Welborn

Hey Wahoos,
We're heading into the home stretch! Our kids have improved so much this season thanks to Mike and Katie's expert coaching and the encouragement they've received from family, friends and teammates. Despite the fact that we are a small team in a rather large division, we really held our own at these events, both in the water and out. If meets were judged on a per capita point basis, the Wahoos would certainly be at the top. I am so proud of our team!

IMPORTANT REMINDER:
Kathleen Dunn has sent out an Evite for the Wahoo Banquet and is selling tickets during morning practice and at the meet this Monday. Please RSVP to the Evite by tomorrow so that we can give a headcount to our sponsor, Outback Steakhouse. If you did not get the Evite, please let me know. This is our only fundraiser for the season--so invite your family and friends! To those of you who will not be able to attend the Banquet and/or Champs, thank you for your support this season and we hope you will join us again next summer.

Attached is the Worker Schedule for our final home meet against Walton Park. There have been a couple of changes to this schedule, so please make sure you read this document. If you have any conflicts, inform me and the person in charge of your area of any changes ASAP.

See you on Monday!
Cathy Welborn

5th swim meet, 3rd dive meet update

Dear Wahoos,
